Who made you King of Anything?

Who You Are And What They Say (taken from http://chrisguillebeau.com)
If you are confident, they will say you are arrogant.
If you are deliberate, they will say you are too sure of yourself.
If you have a sense of purpose, they will say you are self-absorbed.
If you know who you are, they will ask, “Who are you, anyway?”
If you believe in kindness and compassion, they will say you are naïve.
If you are a dreamer, they will say “join the real world.”
If you are a rebel, they will try to shut you down.
The instructions include:
rein it in
slow it down
wait it outpull it back
take your time
play it safe
But you will know:
They are envious because they want what you have.
They are afraid of change even as they crave it.
They are projecting their own regret into resentment of you.
It’s not all bad news: some of them will sort themselves out and end up joining you. Because you are a good person and have had plenty of false starts of your own, you’ll understand and welcome them warmly. We’ve missed you! you’ll say. It’s about time you made it.
As for the others, well, you will remember what Gandhi said:
“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Been quite sick the past few days, oh wells. Down with both bacterial and viral infections. (how lucky i am). Been thinking more about stuffs. And reading more as well. http://chrisguillebeau.com/3×5/ has piqued my interest quite a bit! Its about not conforming to things that you really don’t wanna do. And amongst other stuffs, there’re pointers for people who wanna start up their small businesses, reads for the soul, etc.
Anyways, in response to the post Chris made, Sara Bareilles’ song, “King Of Anything” popped into my head.
No one has the power to make you do anything you don’t wanna do, unless of course, you allow it.
Lyrics after the jump.
King Of Anything
Keep drinking coffee, stare me down across the table
While I look outside
So many things I’d say if only I were able
But I just keep quiet and count the cars that pass byYou’ve got opinions, man
We’re all entitled to ‘em, but I never asked
So let me thank you for your time, and try not to waste anymore of
mine
And get out of here fastI hate to break it to you babe, but I’m not drowning
There’s no one here to saveWho cares if you disagree?
You are not me
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be?
Who died and made you king of anything? You sound so innocent, all full of good intent
Swear you know best
But you expect me to jump up on board with you
And ride off into your delusional sunsetI’m not the one who’s lost with no direction
But you’ll never see
You’re so busy making maps with my name on them in all caps
You got the talking down, just not the listeningAnd who cares if you disagree?
You are not me
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be?
Who died and made you king of anything? All my life I’ve tried to make everybody happy
While I just hurt and hide
Waiting for someone to tell me it’s my turn to decideWho cares if you disagree?
You are not me
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be?
Who died and made you king of anything?Who cares if you disagree?
You are not me
Who made you king of anything?
So you dare tell me who to be?
Who died and made you king of anything?Let me hold your crown, babe
-Sara Bareilles
On a side note, anyone seen the music video for “Just the Way You Are” ? Its a nice concept, great song, but i disagree with the underlying focus, i.e the female actress. She’s really pretty, confident and attractive at that, but that’s where the problem is. The song’s about a guy loving a girl “just the way she is”, and in any way i see it, the girl in the mtv’s so perfect, its really not hard at all love her for being so attractive. Hollywood should have just put a girl who’s all not confident, not assured of herself, but yet loved wholly by the main character, just the way she is. There’re too many girls today who needs to know they are loved, despite not having that megan-fox figure, pretty face, or whatever the world throws at them to diminish their self worth.
Just another nice cover of “Just a dream – Nelly”, by Sam Tsui, Christina Grimmie, and Kurt. Enjoy!
Alrights, after i recover from this sickening sickness, i want a bowl of Marutama Ramen!
